ON THE SCREEN
SIMPLE ANIMATION &
MOTION GRAPHICS
Although animation and motion graphics have no physical depth to measure, the addition of time to the viewing experience gives them their third dimension.

Video images have filled the void where we used to communicate and tell stories in person. The simplest sound design, motion graphics, and animation effects can help your messaging have tone, flow, and keep the viewer engaged.

VASHON CENTER for the ARTS
LOGO-Motion Graphics
Promoting some 12-15 live shows a month, being able to engage audiences on social media with video content was a must. This simple animation was created to bookend the beginning and end of short promotional clips and provide a lower third where dates and ticket info could be floated on top.

At the beginning and end of the motion sequence e, space is left between the logo and web address. Different placards can be nestled in the space. Here, it's the logo I created for "Arnaldo! Drag Chanteuse," but it could be more general like "COMING SOON!"

The motion graphics all intentionally stay inside the middle 1080x1080 of the screen, so that there would be no cut off when posted on Instagram.
VCA Winter/Spring 2026 Season Sizzle Reel
Though I no longer work on staff at VCA, I still enjoy helping them out with with freelance design work. This "Sizzle Reel" was built to showcase the incredible variety of acts in the second half of their 60th Season for potential series sponsors, program advertisers, and show underwriters.
This 3 minute, 45 second video required two new 60th Anniversary animated logo bookends, 15 two-part lower-third animations, still photo editing and montage builds, as well as logging and reviewing dozens of source footage assets, making cuts, creating transitions, adjusting sound, refining timing, and structuring a loose narrative flow.

ANTIOCH COMMENCEMENT-
Motion Graphics

The pandemic meant that many graduation ceremonies canceled, and schools had to scramble to put together an online event. Speeches became hastily homemade videos; the walk to receive a diploma and a handshake became a name scrolling across a screen.
Antioch University in Seattle asked me to edit their 2020 commencement and give it a more ceremonial and special feel. I created branded motion graphics to set it apart from being just a collection of disjointed "good luck" videos. Here is a sampler of three of those motion graphics.
SUMMIT FOR CREATURES CAMPAIGNING FOR A BETTER WORLD - Motion Grpahics

This short animation was created when the Bureau of Fearless Ideas, a non-profit writing center, suddenly faced moving their annual fundraising gala to an online event due to COVID.
They wanted their donors to know about an exciting new writing workshop where kids invent an imaginary world while an illustrator (Camilla Franklin) maps them on paper. Taking the point of view of one of the creatures in the world, they write a speech for a "summit". We recorded one of the kids' speeches, scanned the drawings, and I made this a crude (but charmingly effective) animation.

SOCIAL DISTANCING PSA
Green Screen

The beginning of the pandemic was a scary and disorienting time for kids. This PSA was posted on the Bureau of Fearless Ideas website to offer a fun way to remind kids to be aware of the space around them.
